Last night, AMERICAN IDOL and a special preview of new drama TOUCH gave FOX a victory among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34 and Teens.  FOX outperformed the next highest rated network (CBS) by +79% in the adult demo and by +32% in Total Viewers.

AMERICAN IDOL and TOUCH were the #1 and #2 programs of the night among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

* AMERICAN IDOL: 6.4/18, down -9% from last Wednesday’s 8pm hour (7.0/19) and will likely go up to a 6.5 in the finals (which would be down -7% vs. last week’s 8pn hour)
o With the expected lift to a 6.5, last night’s week-over-week retention in the hour (93%) is right in line with last season’s week 2 retention on Wednesday (94%)
o Versus last Thursday’s one-hour telecast, last night’s IDOL is up +12% in Adults 18-49 and up +8% in Total Viewers
o IDOL out-rated the CBS’ original Criminal Minds by +78% in the adult demo and beat CSI by +39% in Total Viewers
o IDOL dominated its 8-9pm hour, out-rated the combined 4-Net competition by +21% in Adults 18-49 (6.4 vs. 5.3), by +12% among Adults 18-34 (4.6 vs. 4.1) and +7% in Total Viewers (19.5 vs. 18.3 Mil).
o Last night’s IDOL grew +19% (5.9>7.0) among Adults 18-49 from its first half hour to its second.
                                                           
* TOUCH Preview (S): 3.9/10, showing +61% retention of its IDOL lead-in – the highest retention for a drama opening after IDOL ever
o TOUCH drew 12 million Total Viewers and retained +62% of it IDOL lead-in – also the highest retention for post-IDOL drama opening ever
o The TOUCH preview is FOX’s highest-rated drama opening in three years (since Lie to Me on 1/21/09)
o TOUCH is this season’s second highest rated drama opening (behind only Once Upon a Time, which drew a 4.0 rating)   

Competition
ABC ran repeats of The Middle (1.5/4), Suburgatory (1.4/4), Modern Family (2.5/6), Happy Endings (1.7/4), and Revenge (0.9/2).

CBS aired a repeat Criminal Minds (1.7/5) at 8p, followed by originals of Criminal Minds (3.6/9, up +13%) and CSI (3.3/9, up +18%) at 9p and 10p.

NBC’s original episode of Whitney (1.4/4) dropped -13% to its season low, while Are You There, Chelsea? (1.4/4) dropped -18% to its lowest ratings to date. Cack-to-back repeats of Law & Order: SVU (1.2/3 and 1.4/4) followed from 9-11pm.
