Fox headed for biggest November Sweep in 5 years

Following strong weekly performances with its regular programming post-World Series, FOX is expected to win the November sweep for the first time in the network’s history. FOX is currently leading the sweep and, based on internal projections, should deliver a +12% margin of victory in Live + 7 ratings – the largest margin of victory by any network in the November sweep in 5 years (since CBS’s victory in November 2004).


This past week, FOX delivered a weekly adult demo rating of 2.4/6, driven by its strong Monday HOUSE and LIE TO ME pairing, a well as solid performances by GLEE and BONES. The network continues to hold the top spot for the season to date with an overall rating of 3.6/10 among Adults 18-49, leading CBS by +13%. 

On Monday night, HOUSE (5.0/13) and LIE TO ME (2.7/7) together continued to outperform last Fall’s Monday averages by +65% among Adults 18-49, +90% among Adults 18-34 and +59% in Total Viewers. 
HOUSE was the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

FOX’s Wednesday night combo of dance sensation SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (2.1/6) and fan favorite GLEE (3.3/9) once again delivered a nightly win among their key Adults 18-34, Teens and Women 18-34 audiences.
So far this season GLEE shows strong growth compared to FOX’s regular Fall’08 average in the Wednesday 9p hour, increasing +83% among Adults 18-49, +125% among Adults 18-34, +109% among Teens and +49% in Total Viewers.

FOX’s Thursday night lineup of BONES (2.7/8) and FRINGE (2.0/5) continues to make gains over the previous season’s Thursday averages (excluding sports), increasing +39% among Adults 18-49 and +80% in Total Viewers. 
FOX is the only network showing year to year gains in the November sweeps on Thursday (excluding World Series night on 10/29/09) with an increase of +10% among Adults 18-49.
BONES outperformed ABC’s FlashForward in head-to-head competition for the second week in a row.

At 9p LIE TO ME posted a 2.7/7 among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 3 in the 9p hour among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

FOX was the only network to see week to week gains among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 (both +4%). 

The SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE performance show delivered a 2.4/7 among Adults 18-49, up versus last week by +4% in both Adults 18-49 (vs. 2.3/6) and Adults 18-34 (2.5/8 vs. 2.4/7) and +3% in Total Viewers (6.0 vs. 5.8 Mil.)

In head to head competition in the 9p hour SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE outperformed ABC’s Dancing With The Stars results show by +20% in Adults 18-34 (2.4/7 vs. 2.0/6).

GLEE was the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-34 and Teens, out-delivering ABC’s The Middle, Modern Family, Cougar Town and In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson, CBS’ Old Christine, Gary Unmarried, Criminal Minds and CSI: NY, NBC’s Mercy, Law & Order: SVU and Jay Leno and CW’s fall finale of America’s Next Top Model.

FOX is the only network showing year to year gains in the November sweep on Thursday (excluding World Series night on 10/29/09) with an increase of +10% among Adults 18-49 (2.3/6 vs. 2.1/5).  ABC is down -3% (3.7/10 vs. 3.8/10), CBS is down -8% (3.7/10 vs. 4.0/10) and NBC is down -27% (2.4/6 vs. 3.3/9).
                             
BONES posted a 2.7/8 among Adults 18-49 and was on par with its prior season average (2.8/8).

For the second week in a row BONES outperformed Flash Forward on ABC in head to head competition in the 8p hour, showing an advantage of +13% among Adults 18-49 (2.7/8 vs. 2.4/7).  BONES ranked No. 2 in the 8p hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 3 in Adults 18-34.

So far this Fall BONES outperforms its Thursday average last season by +4% among Adults 18-49 (2.8/8 vs. 2.7/8), +10% among Adults 18-34 (2.3/7 vs. 2.1/7) and +3% among Total Viewers (9.7 vs. 9.4 Mil). 

Compared to FOX’s Fall’08 time period performance with regular programming, BONES is up +65% among Adults 18-49 (2.8/8 vs. 1.7/5), +35% among Adults 18-34 (2.3/7 vs. 1.7/5) and +143% among Total Viewers (9.7 vs. 4.0 Mil). 

FRINGE posted 2.0/5 among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 4 in the 9p hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 5 among Adults 18-34. So far this season FRINGE shows substantial gains compared to FOX’s regular programming in the time period last Fall, increasing +16% among Adults 18-49 (2.2/6 vs. 1.9/5) and +40% in Total Viewers (6.0 vs. 4.3 Mil.)

THE SIMPSONS did a 3.3/8 among Adults 18-49 and so far this season has improved upon its Fall’08 average by +8% among Adults 18-49 (4.0/10 vs. 3.7/9), +7% among Adults 18-34 (4.7/14 vs. 4.4/13) and +4% in Total Viewers (8.3 vs. 8.0 Mil.) 

In the 8p half hour THE SIMPSONS ranked No. 3 among Adults 18-49 and No. 1 in Adults 18-34 and Teens.

At 8:30p THE CLEVELAND SHOW did a 3.3/8 among Adults 18-49 and retained 100% of its SIMPSONS lead-in.  So far this season THE CLEVELAND SHOW has outperformed last year’s King Of The Hill Fall average by +30% among Adults 18-49 (3.9/10 vs. 3.0/7), +40% among Adults 18-34 (4.9/14 vs. 3.5/9) and +23% in Total Viewers (7.9 vs. 6.4 Mil.)
