Fox News suspends Gingrich and Santorum

Two conservative “contributors” to Fox News Channel (FNC) content won’t be contributing for a while. The 24/7 news channel announced Wednesday (3/2) that former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) and former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) had been taken off the air because of their exploratory efforts at running for President.

The suspensions took effect immediately and will run for 60 days. Gingrich and Santorum have been told that they will have to advise FNC by May 1st that they are not running for President if they wish to have their contracts reinstated.

At least three other FNC contributors are believed to be at least considering a run for the GOP nomination in 2012, but they are not included in the suspensions. They have not gone as far publicly as Santorum and Gingrich in efforts to establish an exploratory campaign organization. So, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Ambassador John Bolton will remain on the air – for now – at FNC.
