Fox O&O roadblocks WGCI Chicago

The Sun-Times’ Robert Feder reports from noon to 7 p.m. yesterday, Clear Channel Radio’s Urban AC WGCI-FM had only one advertiser. Every minute of commercial time was by Fox-owned WPWR-TV Ch. 50 to promote the premiere at 7 p.m. Wednesday of "Under One Roof." MyNetworkTV’s first scripted comedy series stars Flavor Flav as an ex-convict who moves in with his wealthy, conservative brother.

RBR/TVBR observation: Sounds a bit like recent campaigns from Rich Russo, JL Media’s SVP/Director of Broadcast Services. He won an award for doing just the same thing, for WGN-TV Chicago a while back. In September of 2006, WGN purchased the entire day on JACK-FM in Chicago to promote the launch of "According to Jim." Jim belushi created content and basically took over the station for a day. The campaign actually won a campaign of distinction award at Promax 2007. The now current creative person at WPWR (Dominic Mancuso) was working at WGN at the time but had no involvement in the JACK stunt whatsoever, but was likely influenced by the forward and creative thinking and execution of his former employer WGN-TV.
