Fox seventh season-premiere of 'House' second place

The season premiere of HOUSE posted a 4.1/11 and was the highest rated drama of the night among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34


HOUSE outperformed the season and series debuts of ABC’s Castle, CBS’ Hawaii Five-O and NBC’s Chuck, The Event and Chase and ranked No. 1 in the hour among Adults 18-34 and all key male demos.  Last night’s HOUSE was down compared to last year’s two-hour premiere compared to last year’s two-hour premiere (6.8/17 on 9/21/09).

The series debut of LONE STAR posted a 1.3/3 among Adults 18-49 and drew 4.1 million total viewers.

Competition
ABC’s Dancing With The Stars (5.0/13) kicked off the 10/11 season up from last fall’s performance premiere (4.1/10 on Mon. 9/21/2009), but down -22% from its cycle 10 launch last spring (6.4/17 on Mon. 3/22/2010).  With DWTS running into its time period, Castle premiered with an inflated 2.8/8 at 10p, up from its debut last fall (2.3/6 on 9/21/2009) but down -44% from its Dancing lead-in.

On CBS, a night of premieres began with How I Met Your Mother at 8p (3.6/10) matching its debut last fall.  At 8:30p, Rules of Engagement (3.1/8) was below the 2009/10 premiere in the time period (Accidentally on Purpose, 3.3/8), as well as its spring debut (3.4/9 on Mon 3/1/10).  Two & A Half Men (4.8/12) gained +7% from its debut last year (4.5/10) while the premiere of new series Mike and Molly (3.9/10) fell -13% from its lead-in and -17% from the 2009/10 time period premiere (Big Bang Theory, 4.7/11).  At 10p, the debut of Hawaii Five-0 (3.8/10) was down -12% from last year’s debut of CSI: Miami (4.3/12).

On NBC, the fourth season premiere of Chuck (2.1/6) was down -19% from its premiere last spring (2.6/7 on Mon. 1/11/10) and down -25% from Heroes’ two-hour premiere at 8p last fall (2.8/7 on 9/21/2009). The series premiere of The Event delivered a 3.7/9 at 9p, up from Trauma’s low-rated premiere in the time period last year (2.2/5 on 9/28/2009). At 10p, the series debut of Chase posted a 2.5/7, dropping -32% from its lead-in, down -53% from Jay Leno’s premiere in the time period premiere last fall (5.3/14 on 9/14/2009), and down -17% from My Own Worst Enemy’s premiere in the time period the prior year (3.0/8 on 10/13/08).
