FOX takes No. 1 and No. 2 ‘American Idol’ and ‘GLEE’ winning Tuesday

On a competitive night of season finales FOX secured the No. 1 and No. 2 programs of the night with AMERICAN IDOL and GLEE and won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  In fact, FOX outperformed its nearest competition for the night by +68% among Adults 18-49, +81% among Adults 18-34, +144% among Teens and +2% in Total Viewers.


AMERICAN IDOL:
The Top 2 finalists on AMERICAN IDOL posted a 6.6/19 among Adults 18-49, on par with last week (and likely to go up in the finals) among Adults 18-49, up by +26% among Teens and +5% in Total Viewers.

AMERICAN IDOL dominated its 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos, showing advantages +100% among Adults 18-49, +78% among Adults 18-34, +132% among Teens and +23% in Total Viewers over its nearest competitors.
So far this season (Most Current ratings vs comparable Most Current), AMERICAN IDOL shows 91% retention among Adults 18-49, 91% among Adults 18-34, 92% among Teens and 92% in Total Viewers.

GLEE:
Airing against several finales, GLEE delivered a 4.8/13 among Adults 18-49, identical to last week in Adults 18-49 and up +6% among Adults 18-34 and +23% in Teens.  In fact, GLEE posted its highest ratings ever with Teens. 

GLEE won the 9p hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34/25-54, Teens, Women 18-49/18-34 and all key male demos.  In head to head competition in the 9p hour, GLEE outperformed the first hour of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars finale by +37% among Adults 18-49 (4.8/13 vs. 3.5/9) and the second hour of NBC’s Biggest Loser finale by +12% (vs. 4.3/11). 

This Spring, GLEE has outperformed its Fall season originals average (Wed 9p) by +55% among Adults 18-49, +42% among Adults 18-34, +58% among Teens and +66% among Total Viewers

Competition

Following a repeat of Monday night’s DWTS performance show (1.6/5), ABC’s Dancing With The Stars (3.8/10) posted its lowest rated finale ever, dropping -12% from its Fall 09 closer earlier this season (4.3/12 on 11/24/09) and -27% from its Spring 09 finale last year (5.2/14 on 5/19/09).  With last night’s telecast, Dancing With The Stars closed its lowest rated Spring cycle ever, dropping -7% from the prior low-mark established last season (4.1/11 vs. 4.4/11).

CBS’ night of finales began with NCIS (3.2/10) which dropped -22% from its prior original average (4.1/11) and was down -9% from last season’s finale.  NCIS: LA (2.7/7) and The Good Wife (2.0/6) delivered series lows and fell -23% and -26%, respectively from their 2009/10 averages with first-run episodes (3.5/9 & 2.7/8).

NBC’s The Biggest Loser 9 finale (3.8/11) was down -24% from its Fall finale (5.0/13 on 12/8/09) and fell -19% from last year’s Spring finale (4.7/13 on 5/12/09).  At 10p, Parenthood (2.6/7) ended its season flat with last week.
