Fox Tuesday comedies steady

FOXFOX’s Tuesday comedies returned steady after being off for a month/five weeks and won last night among Adults 18-34 and Teens. NEW GIRL was the highest rated comedy of the night in Adults 18-49, beating NBC’s Go On in head-to-head competition by +33%.  In addition, THE MINDY PROJECT outperformed The New Normal in head-to-head competition among Adults 18-49 by +15%.

o    RAISING HOPE was the highest rated program of the night in Teens

·         BEN AND KATE: 1.2/3, up +9% from its last original five weeks ago (1.1/3 on 12/4/13)

·         NEW GIRL: 2.0/5, even with its last original one month ago (2.0/5 on 12/11/12)

o    In addition to being the highest-rated comedy among Adults 18-49, NEW GIRL was the highest rated program of the night in Adults 18-34

·         THE MINDY PROJECT: 1.5/4, even with its last original one month ago (1.5/4 on 12/11/12)

Competition

Following repeats of Modern Family (1.7/5) and The Middle (1.5/4), ABC comedies Happy Endings (1.4/4) and Don’t Trust The B In Apt 23 (1.1/3) held close to their most recent Tuesday originals (up +8% and flat, respectively). At 10pm, Private Practice (1.1/3) matched its lowest rating ever with a Tuesday original, down -8% from its most recent telecast (1.2/3 on 12/18/12).

On CBS, NCIS (3.5/10) was up +6% from its most recent original (3.3/10 on 12/18/12), while NCIS: LA (3.0/8) and Vegas (1.6/4) were flat.

On NBC, the two-part premiere of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers (1.5/4 at 8pm and 1.8/5 at 8:30pm) was down -42% and -31%, respectively, from its series debut last year (2.6/6 on Mon 1/16/12). Go On (1.5/4) and The New Normal (1.3/3) both posted their series lows, falling -38% and -24% from their most recent telecasts (2.4/7 and 1.7/4 on 12/4/12). At 10pm, Parenthood (1.9/5) was down -5% from its last regular original one month ago (2.0/6 on 12/11/12).

From 8-9pm, ABC’s repeat comedies (Modern Family/The Middle) beat Fox’s original comedies (Raising Hope/Ben & Kate) by 2.2 million viewers and by 14% in Adults 18-49. In addition, at 8pm the encore Modern Family outdelivered the second season premiere of NBC’s Off Their Rockers in viewers and young adults.

At 9pm, ABC’s Happy Endings was up over its last original telecast in the half-hour three weeks ago (on 12/18/12) by 8% in Adults 18-49, and posted its most competitive finish yet with NBC’s Go On (pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point and tied in audience share).  Happy Endings defeated Go On in Adults 18-34 (+10%) and Men 18-34 (+43%).  The ABC comedy matched its top Adult 18-49 number since its season premiere on October 23, 2012.

At 9:30pm, ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23 drew its biggest audience in 10 weeks and retained 100% of its last original in the half-hour among Adults 18-49.

Building on its lead-in (+22%) during the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s Private Practice earned its largest audience since December 4, 2012.
