Fox victory Wednesday w/ 90-minutes of 'American Idol'


Last night, the AMERICAN IDOL Top 6 performance show and new comedy BREAKING IN gave FOX another Wednesday win across all key demos. In addition, FOX dominated its nearest competitor last night by +152% among Adults 18-49 (5.8 vs. 2.3 for CBS) and +98% in Total Viewers (18.2 vs. CBS’ 9.2 Mil.)

AMERICAN IDOL:  6.9/19, down -3% from last Wednesday (but will likely go up a few tenths in the finals as it has for the past several weeks)

IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos and outperformed the combined 4-net average in the 8-9:30pm period by +11% among Adults 18-49
Versus the comparable telecast last year (Top 6 on 4/27/10), last night’s IDOL retained 100% of Adults 18-49 and gained +12% in Total Viewers 

So far this season with Comparable Most Current ratings, AMERICAN IDOL retains 96% of last year’s Adults 18-49 audience and is up +2% in Total Viewers versus the same period last season.

BREAKING IN:  2.6/6, up +4% from last week in the demo and up +1% in Total Viewers (7.6 vs 7.5 Mil.)

BREAKING IN ranked #1 in the 9:30p half hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and Teens.


Following a repeat of The Middle (1.4/4), ABC’s Better With You (1.5/4, down -6%) tied its lowest original performance to date. In the 9p hour, a Modern Family repeat posted a 2.0/5, while Cougar Town (2.1/5) dropped -9% and matched its season low. Closing out the night, an original episode of Happy Endings (2.1/5) grew +17% week over week and a Modern Family repeat delivered a 1.7/4.

CBS’ Survivor: Redemption Island (3.0/9, down -3%) delivered the program’s lowest original telecast ever (excluding clip shows and Thanksgiving), and through eleven weeks remains on pace to deliver its lowest rated season of all time (3.1/9). Repeats of Criminal Minds (2.1/5) and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (1.7/4) finished the night.

The NBC News Special: Inside The Royal Wedding posted a 1.2/3 at 8p, and a repeat of the series premiere of The Voice posted a 2.1/5 from 9-11p.
