Fox Wednesday, 'American Idol' beats all competitors

The AMERICAN IDOL Top 11 performed last night from 8-10pm, giving FOX another Wednesday victory among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.     
                
FOX outperformed the combined 4-net competition for the night by +15% among Adults 18-49 (7.5 vs. 6.5) and +5% in Total Viewers (23.6 vs. 22.5 Mil.) and beat the next highest rated network (CBS) by +159% in the adult demo and +117% in Total Viewers.


AMERICAN IDOL:  7.5/21, down slightly (-5%) vs. last Wednesday (note – IDOL has been bumping up 1-2 tenths in the finals every week, so it’s likely this will go up).
Last night’s IDOL retained 99% of last Wednesday’s audience in Total Viewers (23.6 vs. 23.9 Mil.). 

AMERICAN IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos and outperformed the next highest rated program of the night (Criminal Minds)  by +121% in Adults 18-49 and +83% in Total Viewers.

Versus the comparable telecast last year (Top 10 on 3/30/10), last night’s IDOL retained 97% of the Adults 18-49 and gained +8% in Total Viewers (23.6 vs. 21.9 Mil.)                            
AMERICAN IDOL grew +27% in its last half hour vs. its first among Adults 18-49 (8.1 vs. 6.4) and +24% in Total Viewers (25.4 vs. 20.5 Mil.)     

Competition
Following repeats of The Middle (1.5/5 and 1.5/4) and Modern Family (2.0/5), ABC’s new series Mr. Sunshine (1.4/4) delivered its lowest rating to date, dropping -33% from last week’s telecast. Closing out the night, Off the Map (1.3/4) matched its lowest original rating, down -13% from last week.

CBS’s Survivor: Redemption Island (2.9/9) dropped -6% from last week and delivered its lowest rated original telecast ever (excluding clipshows and Thanksgiving). Survivor has matched or established regular series lows in six of its seven telecasts this season and remains off to its weakest start ever (3.1/9), down -16% from its previous lowest installment through this point in the season (Survivor: Samoa, 3.7/11, Fall 2009).  Criminal Minds (3.4/9) was down -6% 9p, while spinoff Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2.3/6) finished the night up +5% from last week but down -12% from its prior average (2.6/8).
 
NBC’s Minute to Win It delivered a 1.1/3 and was down -8% from last week, followed by a Law & Order: SVU repeat (1.0/3) at 9p. At 10p, an original Law & Order: SVU (2.4/6) was down -8% week over week.
