FOX’s ‘American Idol’ w/ ‘GLEE’ wins Tuesday hands down

FOX had the No. 1 and No. 2 programs of the night with AMERICAN IDOL and GLEE as it won the night among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  In fact, FOX outperformed its nearest competition for the night by +78% among Adults 18-49 (5.7/15 vs. 3.2/8 for CBS), +96% among Adults 18-34 (4.9/14 vs. 2.5/7 for NBC) and +217% among Teens (3.8/13 vs. 1.2/4 for CBS and NBC).


AMERICAN IDOL, which featured performances by the Top 4, delivered a 6.7/18 among Adults 18-49 and showed growth over last week of +8% among Adults 18-49 (6.7/18 vs. 6.2/18), +4% among Adults 18-34 (5.1/16 vs. 4.9/17), +9% among Teens (3.7/14 vs. 3.4/13) and +7% in Total Viewers (18.7 vs. 17.5 Mil.)

 AMERICAN IDOL dominated its 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos. In the 8p hour AMERICAN IDOL showed advantages over its nearest competitors of +76% among Adults 18-49 (6.7/18 vs. 3.8/10 for CBS), +89% among Adults 18-34 (5.1/16 vs. 2.7/8 for CBS), +131% among Teens (3.7/14 vs. 1.6/6 for CBS) and +11% in Total Viewers (18.7 vs. 16.9 Mil for CBS.)

So far this season, AMERICAN IDOL’s Most Current ratings vs. the comparable Most Current weeks last year show 91% retention among Adults 18-49 (8.8/23 vs. 9.7/24), 91% among Adults 18-34 (7.3/21 vs. 8.0/22), 94% among Teens (6.0/20 vs. 6.4/20) and 93% in Total Viewers (24.2 vs. 26.1 Mil.)

Week four of GLEE posted a 4.8/12 among Adults 18-49, virtually identical to last week (4.9/13), while it showed growth in Teens (+9%, 3.8/13 vs. 3.5/12) and Total Viewers (+1%, 11.7 vs. 11.6 Mil.)  GLEE was the highest rated program of the night in Teens.
GLEE won the 9p hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34/25-54, Teens and all key female demos. In head to head competition in the 9p hour, GLEE outperformed its nearest competitors by +20% among Adults 18-49 (4.8/12 vs. 4.0/10 for ABC), +34% among Adults A18-34 (4.7/13 vs. 3.5/10 for ABC) and +153% among Teens (3.8/13 vs. 1.5/5 for NBC).

So far this spring GLEE has outperformed its prior season originals average (Wed 9p) by +58% among Adults 18-49 (5.2/13 vs. 3.3/9), +44% among Adults 18-34 (5.2/15 vs. 3.6/11), +58% among Teens (3.8/13 vs. 2.4/9) and +70% among Total Viewers (12.4 vs. 7.3 Mil.)

Competition

ABC’s Dancing With The Stars results show (2.5/7) was in line with its prior average, which through last night is down -21% from its comparable performance last spring (2.6/8 vs. 3.3/8).  Lost (4.0/10) was on the low side at 9p, falling -9% from its 2009/10 original average (4.4/11) and V (2.4/6) was on par at 10p.

On CBS, NCIS (3.8/10), NCIS: LA (3.3/8) and The Good Wife (2.5/7) were all below their original season averages.

NBC’s Biggest Loser 9 (3.4/9) and Parenthood (2.6/7) both matched their prior averages.

On the CW, 90210 (0.7/2) matched its lowest original ever.  At 9p, Life Unexpected (0.3/1) was a repeat.
