FOXs' 'BONES' remained solid for its sixth season opener

The season premiere of BONES posted a 2.7/8 among Adults 18-49 last night.  Although down from last year’s season debut – which was a week before premiere week against less original competition (-13%)-  BONES is on par with its comparable telecast on 9/24/09 (2.8/8).  In fact, last night’s BONES was up +4% compared to its 09/10 season average last year (2.6/8) among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 2 in the 8p hour.


At 9p the season premiere of FRINGE posted a 2.1/6 and, like its lead-in BONES, is down from last year’s season debut which was a week before premiere week against less original competition (-30%).  However, FRINGE is up +5% compared to its May finale (2.0/6 on 5/20/10) and on par with both its comparable telecast on 9/24/09 (2.3/6) and its 09/10 season average (2.2/6). 

Competition
New drama My Generation (1.6/5) posted ABC’s lowest rating ever for an in-season Thursday series premiere, dropping -61% from Flash Forward’s 2009/10 opener in the time period (4.1/12 on 9/24/09). At 9p, Grey’s Anatomy (5.3/14) delivered its lowest premiere ever, down -21% from its two-hour debut on the same night last year (6.7/17 on 9/24/09). The fourth season of Private Practice opened up with a 3.3/10, matching its lowest season premiere to date (tied with Season 2 on Wed. 10/1/08) and falling -28% from its premiere last season (4.6/13 on 10/1/09).

On CBS, The Big Bang Theory made its Thursday debut with a 4.8/15 at 8p, in line with its Monday premiere last fall (4.7/11 on 9/21/09) but down -9% from its finale last spring (5.3/14 on 5/24/10).  At 830p, the new William Shatner comedy $#*! My Dad Says posted a 3.9/12, dropping -19% from its Big Bang lead-in. CSI (3.4/9) continued to show signs of erosion in its eleventh season, premiering with its lowest season debut ever and dropping -17% from its premiere last fall (4.1/10 on 9/24/09). At 10p, The Mentalist posted a 3.3/10, down -8% from last fall’s premiere (3.6/10 on 9/24/09).

On NBC, the second season of Community debuted with a 2.2/7, down -42% from its series premiere a year ago (3.8/10, 9:30p on 9/17/09). At 8:30p, 30 Rock posted a 2.6/8, its lowest season premiere of its 5 year run, down -13% from its opener last season (3.0/8 on 10/15/09) and down a tenth from its finale (2.7/8 on 5/20/10). The premiere of The Office delivered a 4.3/11, up from its 09/10 premiere in the same time period (4.1/12 on 9/17/09) while the series debut of Outsourced rated a 3.5/9, down -8% from Community’s series launch in the time period a year ago (3.8/10 on 9/17/09). Finally, the second week of the Apprentice (1.4/4) recorded its lowest telecast ever for the second week in a row, dropping a tenth from its premiere a week ago and losing -60% of its Outsourced lead-in.
