Fund-raiser-in-chief for Karl Rove: Barack Obama

American Crossroads, a political organization put together by former George W. Bush operatives Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie, has come under attack by Democrats for a number of reasons, and the attacks were led by President Barack Obama. Rove said they have helped replenish the organization’s bank account.

AC was planning to raise $50M to spend on the midterm elections, a total it says it has exceeded. And it ties $13M of that amount to contributions that came in the wake of the Democratic attacks. The money was collected by AC and its Crossroads GPS.

Obama and other have been taking AC, the US Chamber of Commerce and other groups for not disclosing the names of contributors and for possibly using money donated by foreigners in their political advertising.

RBR-TVBR observation: One of the many ways in which the internet is changing politics is its handiness in taking advantage of a windfall of free publicity for the purposes of fund-raising. When a VIP or celebrity singles you out and gets a lot of coverage doing it, citizens from all over the nation will go to your website and kick in some cash to help you fight back.
