Gay Australian radio taking show to digital video

JOY 94.9 is Australia’s radio outlet dedicated to serving the gay and lesbian community there, and Andy and Adrian are the hosts of one of the station’s most popular shows. The program is said to reach 300K listeners already, and the video deal is expected to give the duo access to another million individuals globally.

JOY 94.9 is joining with GoConnect to distribute the program, with three pilots about to go into production. The targeted outlets will include web TV, smartphone TV and on internet connectable TV, according to SameSame.com. The radio program already has an iPhone app.

The hosts point out that they’ve recorded video for their website many times over the years, so the current effort is a logical extension of what they’ve already begun.

This is not going to be simply the stationing of a camera in the studio while the radio show is taking place. The radio program will be a starting point, with plenty of other material included.

JOY 94.9 exec David McCarthy told SameSame.com, “This partnership, coupled with recent developments like our iphone app means that more people than ever before will be able to access JOYs program nationally and internationally, continuing on with our mission to provide a voice for the gay and lesbian community and break down isolation. Andy and Adrian is one of our most popular shows. I think they are really going to take things to the next level with the GoConnect partnership, and so are we.”

RBR-TVBR observation: If you have an idea for expanding the reach of your creative property, and the means to get it some attention, by all means pursue it. The media world is in flux, and it’s going to remain in flux for some time – it eventually may mean the difference between thriving and going out of business.
