NBC’s press conference special, which covered the 65th Annual Golden Globes announcement, posted a record audience low, 70% below last year’s awards telecast. In fact, fewer homes tuned into NBC’s special than to CBS’s hastily cobbled-together telecast of the strike-altered Peoples Choice Awards special.
The fate of the upcoming 50th Annual Grammy Awards, set to air on CBS on February 10, remains up in the air. A formal request by John Cossette productions, the company that produces the awards, has been made to the WGA to sign an interim agreement in order for the show to proceed as planned. An official decision regarding the waiver is expected to be announced on Monday, January 21. Separately, the status of ABC’s upcoming February 24 telecast of the Academy Awards special remains uncertain.
