Grupo Latino de Radio announced the acquisition of exclusive broadcast rights for Copa Santander Libertadores and Copa Nissan Sudamericana for Spanish language radio in the US. This way, these soccer games will be distributed exclusively by GLR Networks to its affiliated radio stations.
These acquisitions reinforce GLR Networks’ sports offering, which already includes exclusive radio rights to Chivas de Guadalajara, coverage of six other Mexican 1st division soccer teams – Pachuca, Cruz Azul, Morelia, Santos, Estudiantes Tecos and Puebla – and daily sports vignettes.
Copa Santander Libertadores is the oldest and most prestigious soccer tournament in the Americas. The tournament is played from January through June, and during those months, more than 30 teams from ten countries play over 120 mid-week matches. Five Mexican teams – Chivas de Guadalajara and San Luis among them – participate in this tournament and the winner advances to FIFA Club World Cup. Copa Nissan Sudamericana was first played in 1916. Since then, the competition has grown to include Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.
