‘Go-Shop’ Period Ends For Nielsen. What’s Next?

In 1960, Smokey Robinson scored a smash hit when he sang the lyrics to The Miracles’ single “Shop Around.” As the song goes, “Before you ask some girl for her hand now,
keep your freedom for as long as you can now.”

Nielsen Holdings plc took that to heart, with a 45-day “go-shop” period put in place upon the receipt of a marriage proposal, of sorts, from an affiliate of a one-time dissident investor. This triggered a snap-up of shares by another Nielsen investor, who vowed to stop the deal.

That effort has failed, putting Elliott Management Group in the driver’s seat of the nation’s dominant audience measurement and consumer data analytics firm.
