News Corporation employees may want to take a moment Tuesday (2/8) to wish a happy birthday to Dame Elisabeth Murdoch. She’s celebrating her 102nd birthday.
Son Rupert, CEO of News Corp., didn’t make it back to Melbourne, Australia for the festivities, but other childen and grandchildren joined in the celebration, as did numerous Australian luminaries. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Dame Elisabeth wielded the knife herself to cut the cake. She is wheelchair-bound and had recorded her video address to the crowd of 500 invited guests.
“It is very tiring to be so old, but I do love living,” Anne Murdoch Kantor quoted her mother as saying recently.
Dame Elisabeth Murdoch has long been a prominent philanthropist. Her 102nd birthday celebration took place in the Melbourne Recital Centre, which was opened two years agon on her 100th birthday.
