Music Video Below… is GREAT!

At Comic-Con earlier today, CBS debuted the music video for the modern arrangement of the iconic HAWAII FIVE-0 theme song featuring recording session footage and clips from CBS’s upcoming new series.

The video premiered during the H50: ALOHA EARTH panel, which featured HAWAII FIVE-0 stars Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Peter M. Lenkov and director Len Wiseman.

New HAWAII FIVE-0 series composer Brian Tyler (“Eagle Eye,” “Fast and Furious,” “Expendables”) assembled and conducted 35 musicians for the re-record session.  Among the musicians were renowned players from the original television series, such as David Duke (1st Horn), Chuck Findley (1st Trumpet) and Bob Zimmitti (Percussion).

Feeling respect and awe for the classic theme by the series’ original composer, Morton Stevens, Tyler believed the new recording needed to be “true vintage with a cool vibe.”  Explained Tyler, “If you move too far away from the original, you’ll lose why it’s so iconic.”  Series executive producer Peter Lenkov added, “We didn’t want to mess with something that’s great, that people are looking forward to hearing.  The new version is close to the original but is a little more aggressive – a little bigger.”

“The HAWAII FIVE-0 theme is one of the most enduring and iconic theme songs in television history, and it was essential to have the flavor of the original in the modern arrangement,” said George Schweitzer, President, CBS Marketing Group.  “We’re treating the HAWAII FIVE-0 theme as a lead character in the show, and we’ll make use of the song in a variety of ways as we launch the new series.”

Among CBS’s music-themed promotions is the distribution of hundreds of thousands of ringtone cards entitling the receiver to download a free ringtone of HAWAII FIVE-0’s new theme recording.   The first 60,000 cards will be distributed at Comic-Con.
HAWAII FIVE-0 is a modern day reimagining of one of television’s most iconic classics. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park.   Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.  The series will debut Monday, Sept. 20 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
