HD-ONLY AM RADIO GETS OCTOBER FCC VOTE

1

The revitalization of the AM radio service has long been a passion of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai. And, with the January 2021 departure of Republican Commissioner Mike O’Rielly and rumored departure of Pai regardless of who wins the 2020 U.S. presidential election, the radio industry’s two biggest policy-penning advocates are on borrowed time at the FCC.

That’s perhaps one reason why the Commission at its October Open Meeting will consider an item that Pai believes will continue the FCC’s efforts “to help AM radio operators keep pace with changes in the market.”

The HD-only AM report and order is being teed up for a vote.
