On May 4, it became known that NBC News, MSNBC, and CNBC will “be organized into a single unit and led by Cesar Conde, who assumes the newly created role of Chairman, NBCUniversal News Group.”

He’s now selected a SVP/Corporate Affairs, and it is a Hispanic market veteran who has been at National Geographic Society since June 2016 and, prior to that, held roles at NPR, Miami ad shop República, Nortel Networks and McDonald’s.

Taking the post, effective Wednesday (9/2), is Emma Carrasco.

She was the first individual to hold the position of Chief Marketing Officer and SVP/Audience Development at NPR, and shifted between Washington, D.C. and Miami from the end of 2012 until taking the National Geographic Chief Marketing & Engagement Officer post. Carrasco was later promoted to SVP/Global Engagement Officer.

Carrasco’s advertising and marketing industry experience includes five years at Miami-based agency República, as Executive VP; and as VP of Global Branding and Marketing at Nortel Networks. From 1994-1996, she was Communications Director for McDonald’s Corporation.

Carrasco is also a Board Member for Toast Ale, a social enterprise that tackles food waste by turning surplus bread into beer. She will remain in this role.
