Hispanic Radio Podcast: Selling The Talk Factor

0

In a market with a lot of heritage when it comes to spoken word programming serving its many Spanish speakers, something remarkable can be seen when looking at the most recent Nielsen Audio ratings for Miami-Fort Lauderdale.

Leading the pack among Spanish News/Talk stations is Actualidad 1040, sporting the call letters WURN-AM. Not too long ago, this would have been a surprise, given the presence of stalwarts such as Univision Radio’s WAQI-AM “Radio Mambí” and WSUA-AM “Caracol Radio 1260,” Spanish News/Talk stations that were once fighting for supremacy in a market with no less than three other AM players.

While strong programming is certainly a factor, what has this meant for Actualidad’s sales opportunity? What could other radio operators eyeing Spanish-language talk programming learn? Are the political dollars flowing so strong that embracing this format is a no-brainer?

These questions and more are discussed in this latest Hispanic Radio Podcast, in which RBR+TVBR Editor-in-Chief Adam R Jacobson chats by phone with Annabelle Urrea-Guzman, WURN-AM’s LSM.
