Holding company sells holding

Kalil Holding Group has found a buyer for another of its holdings. Matthew Provenzano is buying KHLT-AM Hallettsville, TX in a deal brokered by, you guessed it, Kalil & Co. The price wasn’t immediately disclosed. This sale will complete the resale of the five stations that Kalil Holding Group acquired from Roy Henderson.

RBR/TVBR observation: It’s not hard to figure out why Provenzano wants to buy KHLT, out in the middle of the state, north of Victoria and well west of the Houston metro. There are only two stations in Texas on 1520 kHz. Provenzano already owns the other, KYND-AM Cypress, TX, in the Houston market, a three-tower directional with a CP to go to a complicated six-tower array. Taking out KHLT should make it possible to increase the coverage of KYND, perhaps at less cost than it will take to build the existing CP. Hallettsville has another radio station in town, KTXM-FM, which Kalil Holding recently sold to Kremling Enterprises (2/29/08 RBR #42).
