As Jeff Zucker exits NBC Universal and prepares to open his own production office in NYC on Monday, Friday’s New York Post reported that he’s already working on a big project. Is a Katie Couric daytime talker on the way?
Zucker had a long business relationship with Couric at NBC, dating back to her time on the “Today” show. With her $15 million per year contract at CBS News expiring in May, there’s been lots of speculation about whether she’ll stay as “Evening News” anchor – albeit with a pay cut – or move on to something else.
The Post says multiple sources have confirmed that Zucker and Couric are putting a deal together to have her host a daytime talker. The obvious opportunity is the end of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” after the current season.
RBR-TVBR observation: Couric is not without multiple career options. Check out the picture she posted on her Twitter account. She could start a business getting expensive imported sports cars unstuck from heavy snow – in this case the Maserati of neighbor Barry Diller.
