Hubbard lays off six in Chicago

Hubbard RadioRobert Feder said in his Time Out Chicago blog 1/17 that layoffs hit Hubbard Radio in The Windy City for the first time last week, eliminating the jobs of six off-air staffers at Hot AC WTMX-FM, Classic Rock WDRV-FM and Adult Hits WILV-FM.

They included Chicago radio vet John Bermudez, PD at WTMX, and Sandy Patyk, promotion director at the WTMX and WILV.

Other roles affected were the director of information systems, digital media project coordinator, social media coordinator and graphic designer, said Feder. The goal was not to touch anything that directly impacted the over-the-air product.

“We’re not immune to the real world,” Jerry Schnacke, VP/market manager of Hubbard Radio Chicago, told Feder. “At some point in time, given tough business conditions, you need to make sure you have everybody in the right seats on the bus.”

Schnake added that the layoffs were not the result of a “corporate edict,” but followed his own analysis of staffing levels at other broadcast groups throughout the market.
