Hyundai to support Local Public Radio in Oregon

Better than your everyday underwriting commitment: Hyundai Motor America continues in its mission to give back to local communities by participating in and sponsoring the first Mount Ashland 5K on 7/23. Hyundai will act as a title sponsor of “America’s Friendliest 5K” run/walk, which will benefit Jefferson Public Radio. Hyundai CEO, John Krafcik, will travel to Ashland, OR to run the 5K, as well as to display the new 2012 Hyundai Veloster at the event.

“Participating in events such as the Mount Ashland 5K, where people come together to support a wonderful cause, is a core part of Hyundai’s mission,” said John Krafcik, CEO of Hyundai Motor America. “Jefferson Public Radio is important to the community of Ashland, and Hyundai is always looking for ways to support causes that matter to local communities across the nation.”

Krafcik and Shelton will kick off the Mount Ashland 5K 7/23 at 9 a.m. at the Mt. Ashland Ski Area Lodge alongside the 2012 Hyundai Veloster.

The Mount Ashland 5K is one of many charitable endeavors Hyundai Motor America supports, and on Labor Day, its nonprofit organization, Hyundai Hope on Wheels, will host its own 5K Race & Walk. The Hope on Wheels 5K Race & Walk will raise funds to support the nonprofit’s mission of driving awareness and funding for pediatric cancer research, with all proceeds going to CHOC Children’s in Orange, CA. By the end of this year, Hyundai and Hyundai Hope on Wheels will have committed more than $43 million in donations to pediatric cancer research.

RBR-TVBR observation: This is a good way to build Goodwill and highlight a product with underwriting and integration into local events — all while being able to save on taxes by making the spend on charitable contributions. Hyundai obviously sees the value in non-commercial radio audiences numbers as well as commercial radio—the numbers are there in many markets.
