Idol carries Fox to big victory

FOXAiring the AMERICAN IDOL Top 9 Performance Show, FOX won last night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and Teens. FOX has now won 11 consecutive Wednesdays in Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.


FOX matched the combined 4-net competition average last night in Adults 18-49 (5.0) and beat the combined 3-net competition for the night by +14% (5.0 vs. 4.4 for ABC/CBS/NBC).  FOX beat its nearest competitor for the night by +138% in Adults 18-49 (5.0 vs. 2.1 for CBS).

  • AMERICAN IDOL: 5.0/14, up +2% (one-tenth) from last week’s fast national (4.9)(This is expected to go up a tenth in the finals, which will be flat with last week’s final rating).
    • In Total Viewers IDOL is up +4% from last week’s fast national (17.2 vs. 16.6 Mil.) and is flat with the show’s final national
    • AMERICAN IDOL has outperformed Monday’s telecast of The Voice for the third week in a row in Adults 18-49 (+11%, 5.0 vs. 4.5) and in Total Viewers (+43%, 17.2 vs. 12.0 Mil.)
    • IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and Teens and out-rated the #2 program of the night by +79% in Adults 18-49 (5.0 vs. 2.8 for Survivor), +113% among Adults 18-34 (3.4 vs. 1.6 for Happy Endings) and +79% in Total Viewers (17.2 vs. 9.6 Mil for Survivor).

Competition

Following repeats of ABC’s The Middle (1.2/4), Suburgatory (1.2/4) and Modern Family (1.9/5), an original Happy Endings (1.9/5) was up +6% from last week’s season low (1.8/5). At 10pm, a repeat of Missing (0.9/2) closed out the night.

On CBS, Survivor: One World (2.8/9) was even with last week’s series low (excluding clip shows). Repeats of Criminal Minds (1.7/4) and CSI (1.7/5) aired at 9pm and 10pm.

NBC’s Whitney (1.5/5) and Are You There, Chelsea? (1.2/4) closed out their first seasons down -6% & -14% from last week, respectively. At 9pm, Bent (0.9/3) was -10% below its premiere last week, while at 9:30pm, Bent (0.8/2) was even with last week’s telecast in the time period. Rock Center with Brian Williams (0.8/2) closed out the night up +14% from last week (0.7/2).
