Idol surges 43% in finale

FOXLast night’s AMERICAN IDOL finale from 8-10:07p delivered a preliminary 6.1/18 but is projected to go up to a 6.3 rating in Adults 18-49 with 21.5 Mil Total Viewers once the final numbers come in.  This would mark IDOL’s highest Adults 18-49 rating since week two of this season (1/25/12) and its second-highest Total Viewers delivery of the season behind the premiere on 1/18/12.


AMERICAN IDOL finale: projected 6.3, up +43% week-over-week (vs, last Thursday’s results show) and up +43% from Tue’s final performance show. Year-over-year, the finale is down -32% from last season’s finale (which is in line with where the show has been tracking all season).

Last night’s AMERICAN IDOL finale is projected to be the highest rated entertainment telecast on any network since the Academy Awards in Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers and will beat The Voice’s season 2 finale by +43% in the core adult demo (6.3 vs. 4.4)

In addition, last night’s finale broke a social TV record by clocking more than 1 million social comments – more than any other TV series telecast ever!

AMERICAN IDOL was the #1 program of the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 25-54, and Teens, outperforming the night’s #2 program (Modern Family) by +58% among Adults 18-49 and +115% in Total Viewers.

FOX won the night in Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens, and all key demos. FOX outperformed the combined 4-net competition for the night by +7% in Adults 18-49 (6.3 vs. 5.9) and +11% in Total Viewers (21.5 vs. 19.4 Mil.)

Competition

ABC ran the season finale of The Middle (2.0/7, down -5% from last year’s finale), a repeat Modern Family (2.0/6), and the season finales of Modern Family (4.0/11, down -5% from last year’s finale), Don’t Trust The B In Apt 23 (2.5/7, +32% from last week’s series low), and Revenge (2.4/6, +20% from last week’s series low). Both The Middle and Modern Family posted their lowest-rated finales ever.

CBS ran repeats of The Big Bang Theory at 8p (1.5/5), Two & A Half Men at 830p (1.2/4), and Criminal Minds at 9p (1.6/4) and 10p (1.6/4).

NBC aired the season finale of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers (1.5/5, up +7%), a repeat Off Their Rockers (1.5/5), a repeat Law & Order: SVU (0.9/2), and the season finale of Law & Order: SVU (1.9/5) – down -34% from last year’s finale and is its lowest-rated finale ever.
