The Back Bay’s most well-known spoken word radio brands will soon be getting a new VP of News, Talk and Sports programming.
Starting July 1, an individual with WINS-AM 1010 and WCBS-AM 880 in New York on his resume will be responsible for overseeing the programming of a former sibling, in addition to two Talk AMs serving the greater Boston area.
Heading to iHeartMedia/Boston, effective July 1, is Rob Sanchez.
In his new role, he’ll direct what’s heard on WBZ-AM 1030, which iHeart acquired as a result of the Entercom merger with CBS Radio. He’ll also lead the programming efforts at WRKO-AM 680 and Talk sibling WXKS-AM 1200.
Sanchez reports to VP/Programming for Boston Dylan Sprague.
“Rob’s passion for news and talk coupled with his creativity and bold thinking make him the perfect choice to lead WBZ, WRKO and Talk 1200 into a new era,” said Sprague. “We’re thrilled that he’s joining the iHeartMedia Boston team.”
Sanchez brings almost two decades of spoken word format experience to iHeartMedia. He began his career in Miami before moving to New York in 1996 to become a news production assistant, writer and producer for WINS-AM. Sanchez then joined WCBS-AM in 2000, where he held a number of newsroom management roles, including serving as Assistant News Director.
He’s also had his hand in programming at Tropical WLZL-FM 107.9 in Washington, D.C., for CBS Radio.

In conjunction with Sanchez’s appointment, iHeartMedia/Boston Director of Operations for News/Talk/Sports Bill Flaherty “will work closely with WBZ NewsRadio 1030 and other Boston Region brands.”
He’s been Asst. Director of Programming for WBZ and OM for CBS Traffic Network since December 1987.
