KHOT-AM Madera CA sits to the northwest of Fresno and brings Catholic programming to the area, putting a primary signal over that corner of the actual urban area. It has been in the hands of IHR Educational Broadcasting for some time, and now IHR has officially filed to acquire the station.

IHR, which stands for Immaculate Heart Radio, is headed by Douglas M. Sherman, and it will be parting with only $10 to add the station to its license portfolio. The seller is Redwood Family Services Inc.. Andrew Johnson signed off on the application for Redwood, and IHR’s Sherman is one of Redwood’s officers and directors.

The station has been in a TBA with IHR going all the way back to 12/12/01.

KHOT is a Class D on 1250 kHz with 500 W-N and 81 W-N. Its website lists it as a sister to KJOP-AM Lemoore CA. KJOP is a Class C on 1240 kHz with 250 W-D and 1 kW-N. It is located well to the south of Fresno and doesn’t project its primary contour as close to the city as does KHOT.

Fresno is very much a part of KHOT’s programming, however. It is said to bring the messaging of the Diocese of Fresno to area radio listeners.
