Inner City Columbia SC FM spun off

SoldThe final brick in the Inner City bankruptcy sell-off has now been laid. WZMJ-FM Batesburg SC, serving the Columbia SC market, has been sold to Lake Murray Broadcasting.

The station is a Class A situated to the west of the city, with a Class A signal that falls short of putting a primary contour over it – it has 2.1 kW @ 561’ on 93.1 MHz. It uses an ESPN Sports format.

The price will be $450K.

The station will be the only one in the Lake Murray portfolio, but what it will lack in total stations will be made up in total presidents. On the transaction document, the company lists G. Michael Willis as President/CEO, George J. Bodie as President/COO and Betty W. Willis as President/Chairman. Additional members of the ownership group include John P. Bodie, Robert J. West and Barabara L. West. Each holds a 16.66% share in the company.

The station is not a powerhouse in the ratings, as one might expect given its contour constraints, but a quick glance at the Arbitrons reveals that it does have enough listeners to show up in the results.
