Ion to add mobile DTV in Top 10 markets

At CES 2011, ION Media Networks announced it will execute its first mobile DTV rollout in the Top 10 television markets in Q1, enabling TV content to be transmitted to handheld mobile devices.  The move follows its role in orchestrating industry R&D collaboration for mobile DTV in the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC). The O&O network-broadcaster also voiced ongoing support coordinated business efforts, including from groups such as Mobile Content Venture (MCV) and The Mobile500 Alliance, which also announced at the show that member stations planning to launch mobile DTV now reach 92% of U.S. TV Households.


ION will have its top 10 markets Mobile-TV-ready within 60 days, establishing mobile transmission capability in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington DC, Atlanta, Boston and Detroit.

As detaiiled in the MCV business partnership roll-out plans, ION will enable stations in these key markets to deliver two mobile feeds including its primary ION Television network and its Qubo children’s net.
