The Senate Commerce Committee has a hearing teed up that brings up issues of concern to both the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Communications Commission – it’s just not of great interest to broadcasters. But it does figure to tie up FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski for a few hours.

The session is scheduled for Tuesday 7/27/10 at 2:30 PM, and Genachowski will share the first witness panel with FTC Chair Jon D. Leibowitz.

The second panel includes:

* Guy “Bud” Tribble, Vice President, Software Technology, Apple

* Bret Taylor, Chief Technology Officer, Facebook

* Alma Whitten, Privacy Engineering Lead, Google

* Jim Harper, Director of Information Policy Studies, The Cato Institute

* Dorothy Atwood, SVP, Public Policy and Chief Privacy Officer, AT&T

* Joe Turow, Annenberg School of Communications, University of Pennsylvania

RBR-TVBR observation: Not much to see here if you’re a broadcaster, but at least it means that for the duration, Genachowski will not be dreaming up any onerous new regulatory schemes directed at the broadcast portion of the agency’s spectrum of oversight.
