IVOX Gets A Bigger FM Signal for a Heritage Palm Springs AM

Take a drive down Dinah Shore Blvd. in Cathedral City, Calif., and you may spot a vintage radio station home, with studios once used by the likes of Frank Sinatra and the man who sang the Love Boat theme, Jack Jones.

The company now operating out of this facility has just inked an agreement that’s decided to give its AM with heritage market branding some more “FM revitalization.”

Texas-based IVOX Radio, headed by Louie Comella, has agreed to purchase K270AI at 101.9 MHz from Educational Media Foundation for $175,000.

A $15,000 escrow deposit has been made, and is being held with Pagel, Davis & Hill as escrow agent.

Upon closing, the FM translator covering nearly all of the Coachella Valley will rebroadcast KWXY-AM 1340, a Cathedral City facility that was spinning “Hey Jude” by the Beatles at 12:49pm PT on Thursday and airs a Classic Hits format focused on “relaxing music.”

K270AI is a big boost for KWXY, which at present uses a smaller FM translator, K222DA at 92.3 MHz, to cover Palm Springs.

K270AI joins an operation that also includes KKGX-AM 920 in Palm Springs. Comella acquired the property in March 2021.

If the name Louie Comella rings a bell, it’s because he’s an Executive Producer and Media Financier who has put his dollars into independent films, directors, producers, artists and entertainment. As a producer and director, his credits include thousands of multimedia projects across various distribution channels, including feature films, documentaries, TV commercials and branded content. Collaborations and work include MTV, iHeartRadio, MGM Resorts & Casinos, Major League Baseball, the NFL, as well as broadcast networks such as PBS, Fox Sports and Showtime.

Founded in 1997, Ivox Media started out as a production company making TV commercials and radio spots for advertising agencies.

Ivox is represented by George Kimble of Kozacko Media Services, while EMF is represented by Jon Yinger of Broadcast Properties, LLC.
