‘Jay Leno’ hung in there against football

It is hard to compete with football in any word as NBC knows first hand with their Sunday Night. And it was the case last night as Leno was up against the Fedex Orange Bowl. But Leno continue to hang in there.


From 10:01-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged a 2.2/6 in adults 18-49; a 2.5/6 in adults 25-54 and 6.4 million viewers overall.  Last night’s time-period competition included Fox’s Orange Bowl coverage, CBS’s “The Good Wife” and ABC’s “The Forgotten.”

“The Jay Leno Show” scored its highest adult 18-49 and total-viewer results for any night of the week in four weeks (since Tuesday, Dec. 8)

“The Jay Leno Show” was the hour’s #1 non-sports telecast on the major networks in adults 18-34 and men 18-34 (tie) and was #1 among women 18-34 versus all major-network competition, including Fox’s Sugar Bowl coverage.  “Jay Leno” out-rated ABC’s “The Forgotten” original in all key ratings categories — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers.

Versus Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” comparisons for last night’s telecast are: in adults 18-49, 2.2 vs. 1.4; adults 25-54, 2.5 vs. 1.8; and total viewers, 6.4 million vs. 5.1 million. 

Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to Jay’s debut are: in adults 18-49, 2.2 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 2.5 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 6.4 million vs. 6.9 million).

NBC is #1 for the night in adults 18-49 and other key demographics. 

note: From 8-10:01 p.m., the debut of THE BIGGEST LOSER: COUPLES (4.6/21 in 18-49, 11.7 million viewers overall) set a new adult 18-49 record for a BIGGEST LOSER premiere.  Versus the year-ago BIGGEST LOSER debut (4.5/11 in 18-49, 11.9 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. on January 6, 2009), last night’s premiere is up 2 percent in 18-49.  In total viewers, THE BIGGEST LOSER is currently within 2 percent of the year-ago telecast, which currently holds the record in this category for a BIGGEST LOSER debut.  Versus the most recent BIGGEST LOSER premiere (3.8/11 in 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. on September 15, 2009), last night’s BIGGEST LOSER: COUPLES debut is up 21 percent in 18-49 and 18 percent in total viewers. 
Excluding finales, last night’s telecast tied as the second highest rated BIGGEST LOSER in 18-49 (behind only the penultimate edition of the first BIGGEST LOSER cycle on January 4, 2005, 4.8, and tied with the December 14, 2004 edition).  In total viewers, it’s the second-biggest non-finale BIGGEST LOSER ever, behind only the year-ago debut.

In Late-Night Local People Meters Tuesday night:
Conan O’Brien (1.0/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) out-delivered CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.8/3) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.
At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.6/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) topped CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.4/s).
