United Stations’ President/COO Jim Higgins has lost his father, George Higgins, at 92. George was a US Navy vet and a lifetime resident of the New York/New Jersey. Higgins tells RBR-TVBR to say thanks from him for all of the thoughts and prayers expressed by friends in the business.
George was a graduate of St. John’s University. He worked his way through St. John’s as an employee of CBS Radio, where he came to love the Big Band Music broadcast daily. George came to know many of the musicians from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Dorsey Brothers, Bunny Berrigan, Benny Goodman, and Kate Smith.
A World War II vet, he served as Lieutenant in the US Navy joining after Pearl Harbor. He ran the Navy’s largest uniform and supply store located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. George retired from Pabst Brewing Company.
