J&J expands on Upper Peninsula

Gerald J. Hackman and John J. Nix have interests in three radio stations on the western end of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula along Lake Superior, and now the pair’s J&J Broadcasting Inc. has a deal filed with the FCC to add two more, WJMS-AM & WIMI-FM Ironwood MI.

The seller is Magellan Broadcasting LLC, headed by David W. Winters. It’ll receive $950K for the stations, broken down into a $50K escrow deposit, an additional $815K cash payment at closing and a promissory note for the remaining $85K.

The stations are an old-fashioned AM-FM combo, and there are no station cluster implications beyond that, although the AM’s contour very nearly touches that of WUPY-FM to the east in Ontonagon MI. The other two stations are even further to the east. They are WMPL-AM & WKMJ-FM in Hancock MI.
