The monthly employment report from the US Department of Labor showed the.nation’s unemployment rate dropping one tenth of a percentage point, to 8.1% from 8.2%, but that appeared to be largely because more people gave up on trying to find jobs. What Wall Street focused on was the hiring part of the report. Employers added only 115,000 workers to their payrolls in April – well below expectations. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 168 points, or 1.3%, to 13,038. Broadcasting stocks also plunged, with not a single component of RBR-TVBR’s indices posting a gain for the day.

The RBR Radio Index was down 10.573, or 2.5%, to 412.506.

The TVBR Television Index was down 8.680, or 3.5%, to 236.285.
