When Gross Communications sold WLOQ-FM Orlando this past summer it was only because John Gross knew he was dying from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Now he has passed at age 53.

The Gross family had owned WLOQ since 1977. John Gross began working there two years later and, according to the Orlando Sentinel, was there in a wheelchair when the Smooth Jazz station signed off, with the new owner, TTB Media, flipping it to Spanish CHR WHKQ-FM.

“He was the heart and soul of WLOQ,” Gross’ wife, Sue Kain, told the newspaper.
