The Boise ID multimedia cluster of Journal Communications will be a little bit lighter after the group closes on its deal to spin its two AM stations to noncommercial Catholic broadcaster Salt & Light Radio Inc. Journal said it wants to focus on its FM and television properties. Kalil & Co. represented Journal.

The stations, KGEM-AM 1140 and KCID-AM 1490 are going for $950K.

“With the new ownership, these two stations will now provide a new programming option for listeners while we’ll focus our efforts to serve the Treasure Valley with music, entertainment and fun on our four remaining radio stations and two TV stations providing news, information and entertainment,” said Journal’s Doug Kiel.

The double-barrel AM operation appears to be a perfect set-up for Salt & Light, which was represented by The Exline Corp. They will put Catholic programming on both stations, delivering it in English on KGEM and Spanish on KCID.

Journal’s other holdings in the area KJOT-FM, KQXR-FM, KTHI-FM and KRVB-FM on the radio side, along with television stations ABC KIVI-TV and CW KNIN-TV. KSAW-LP carries the ABC programming into Twin Falls ID.
