Kansas City and national Department Stores ads examined

According to Arbitron, Kansas City, Missouri is the 32nd largest radio market with a population of 1,667,600. According to Media Monitors, the #1 radio advertiser in that market last week was Wal-Mart with 500 commercials. Coming in #2 was Geico with 469 spots, while the Missouri Lottery was #3 with 467 ads. Slim4Life  was #4 with 424 spots and Shane Co. came in #5 airing 416 announcements. Target was #6, up from #57 last week, with 410 spots, while Aldi was #7 with 394 commercials. The Home Depot was #8 running 375 spots and McDonald’s  dropped to #9, from #3 last week, with 370 ads. Coming in #10 was John Morgan Seminars, a newcomer to the top 10, with 350 spots.


Certainly reflecting the holiday shopping season, the #1 department store on the radio nationally again last week was KOHL’S with 17,445 spots. Coming in #2 was JCPENNEY with 16,736 ads, while MACY’S was #3 running 15,369 spots. SEARS was #4 with 8,519 commercials and T.J. MAXX – MARSHALLS came in #5 with 2,130 spots. FRED MEYER held steady at #6 with 1,264 ads, while BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY was #7 airing 1,071 spots. THE BAY was #8 with 733 spots and BEALLS, INC. took #9 with 521 spots. WINNERS jumped to #10, up from #15 last week, with 264 spots.

NATIONAL STATISTICS
Moving to the top of the National Radio spot list last week was GEICO, up from #5 previously, with 30,731 spots. Coming in #2 was THE HOME DEPOT with 29,708 ads, while CHRYSLER – JEEP – DODGE was #3 with 29,519 spots. WAL-MART was #4 with 26,672 spots and VERIZON took the #5 spot with 26,495 commercials.
