Kansas combo takes odd path from one Yates to another

The sale of an AM-FM pair in Phillipsburg KS involves a Yates on the selling side and another Yates on the buying side. However, the seller is representing the Estate of Walter C. Seidel in a deal valued at $400K. The selling Yates is also one of the beneficiaries of the deal, as is the buying Yates.

The stations are KKAN-AM and KQMA-FM.

Selling the stations is James W. Yates, Executor for the aforementioned Estate. Robert D. Yates Jr. is the buyer, and will be doing business as RTY Broadcasting.

The $400K price breaks down like this: $100K will be paid to James W. Yates at closing, and another $100K will be paid to John C. Seidel. A $100K promissory note will be issued to the benefit of Donna D. Seidel. Finally, the buyer will receive $100K worth of like-kind value at closing.

KKAN is a Class C on 1490 kHz with 1 kW-U, ND.
KQMA is a Class C1 on 92.5 MHz with 100 kW @ 512’.

Phillipsburg KS is in unrated territory not far from the Nebraska state line, a bit to the west of the Kansas east-west geographical center.
