Los Angeles public radio station KCRW (89.9FM and KCRW.com) has released  the KCRW Radio app for Android, available now in the Android Marketplace. Users will be able to listen to a live stream of all three KCRW channels — On Air, Eclectic24 All Music and News, with real-time track lists – as well as all On Demand programming, updated daily.

Special features include video highlights of Morning Becomes Eclectic performances, widgets for the Android home screen, and the ability to both bookmark favorite song titles for purchase later and share them on Facebook, Twitter, and via SMS.

And listeners who want to support KCRW, a non-profit funded primarily through member donations, may do so by accessing the mobile website directly from the app.

“We have listeners and fans around the globe and KCRW’s social networks have been buzzing with requests for a creation of an app for Android. This is the first step towards answering that call.” said KCRW Sr. Interactive Producer Nathan Lubeck.  “We recognize the importance Android is playing in the mobile space and now our listeners will be able to listen to their favorite KCRW programming when they want, where they want, and on the platform of their choice.”

“KCRW is thrilled to offer the KCRW Radio app for Android. Our previously released iPhone apps have received critical acclaim from KCRW fans and media alike. The KCRW Radio app for iPhone was listed as one of Wired Magazine’s “20 Favorite iPhone Apps” in 2009. It is our mission to continue making KCRW content as accessible as possible,” said Anil Dewan, KCRW’s Director of New Media.

The app is available for free from the Android Marketplace.  And coming soon: KCRW’s Fringe Benefits app for Android. See http://www.kcrw.com/apps .
