KELO’s laid-low tower possibly pre-ordained to fall

Young Broadcasting’s CBS KELO-TV Sioux Falls-Mitchell SD lost its tower during a particularly harsh winter, and now a branch of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe is asking that the tower stay down. A tribe spokesman said that tribal elders predicted the downfall of the tower 53 years ago.

According to the Mitchell SD Daily Republic, the tribe is requesting a meeting with the FCC to discuss relocating the tower. It had been situated on Medicine Butte, a natural edifice that rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level and dominates the local skyline.

The tribe’s chances appear to be questionable. Although located within historical tribal boundaries, Medicine Butte is near to but no longer within tribal boundaries. Plus there are already other towers located there anyway.
