“Lots of people are saying “Black Lives Matter,” and we want things to be equal. Yet it is too early to see if that sustains itself.”

That’s a quote from Ed Gordon, a co-keynote interview participation who will appear in today’s virtual roundtable discussion during the Radio + Television Business Report’s “Black Media Symposium,” presented by:

The Black Media Symposium will be presented on Facebook Live and via YouTube on Wednesday, August 19, from 11:30am-12:30pm Eastern.

The event is FREE, and will tackle the issues and concerns facing Black media ownership today. The event begins with a keynote conversation with Ed Gordon and a second respected award-winning journalists and author — Roland Martin.

Gordon is an Emmy Award–winning broadcaster who has interviewed many newsmakers including President Bill Clinton. In 2020, Gordon authored his first book, the best-selling “Conversation in Black,” in which he interviewed over 40 leaders and influencers for a “virtual” conversation about the state of Black America and new narratives about the continuing fight for justice and equality.

Named four times by Ebony Magazine as one of the “150 Most Influential African Americans in the United States,” Martin has enjoyed a career as a journalist that includes interviews with multiple U.S. presidents to the top athletes and entertainers in Hollywood. Martin spent six years as a contributor for CNN and is the former executive editor/general manager of the Chicago Defender. Martin recently signed on as a contributor to iHeartMedia’s newly launched Black Information Network (BIN).

Gordon and Martin will precede a roundtable discussion featuring a panel of esteemed Black media executives who will discuss and debate the role of Black media in everything from social movements to advertising and programming to Black consumers.

Featured panelists joining Slade include Chesley Maddox-Dorsey, CEO, American Urban Radio Networks; DuJuan McCoy, Owner/President & CEO, Circle City Broadcasting LLC; and Omar Thompson, Principal, 1Nine Marketing & Media.

The Black Media Symposium is hosted by Urban One Regional Vice President Deon Levingston and RBR+TVBR Publisher Deborah Parenti.
