With a troubled economy and internet-spawned turmoil creating havoc for the business models of traditional journalism, the Knight Commission is seeking answers going forward. FCC Chair Julius Genachowski is among those participating 10/2/09.

The full name of the organization is the Knight Commission on the Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy. It will be at the Newseum in Washington DC on 10/2/09 from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
The panels is convened to offer “…15 recommendations for sustaining democracy and meeting America’s information needs.”

There is only one commercial broadcaster on the program, Robert W. Decherd of Belo Corporation. He will at least be joined by  NPR’s Vivian Schiller and CPB’s Ernest Wilson.

There are, however, two former FCC chairs, and they are as different as night and day – Reed Hundt and Michael Powell. John Sturm of the Newspaper Association of America will also be on hand.
