KOGO adds FM; Hedgecock moving to KFMB

Clear Channel’s KOGO-AM San Diego moved to an FM simulcast 11/7, replacing New Country 95.7 KUSS-FM. KOGO’s new moniker is “FM News and Talk 95.7 and AM 600 KOGO. We are San Diego.” KUSS is another example for an FM music format being displaced by spoken word that is not heading to an HD Radio channel. KUSS’s previous HD2 channel played Classic Country. Seems that is gone too.

Meanwhile, longtime local talker Roger Hedgecock is leaving KOGO at the end of the year and then will head to crosstown competitor, Midwest television’s KFMB-AM, where he’ll get the chance to do radio, TV, Internet and satellite as platforms for his interactive show. After Hedgecock moves on to KFMB, LaDona Harvey will be doing radio talk during drive time on 95.7 against Hedgecock.

Hedgecock’s national show via Radio America will continue. His contract at KOGO was about to expire. “We were just unable to reach an agreement and Roger chose to go elsewhere,” Cliff Albert, KOGO PD, told KGTV-TV.
