Lame duck sessions in the works

The Senate is definitely going to convene after the elections are over, and it looks like the House of Representatives will follow suit, according to a Congressional Quarterly report. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) wants to clear up “unfinished business,” and Speaker Nancy Pelosi is said to be considering an attempt to pass a $150B economic stimulus bill before the 110th Congress enters the history books.

RBR/TVBR observation: Other than oversight of the DTV transition, it’s been a relatively quiet year in Congress for broadcasters. But the waning days and weeks of the year are when a lot of things happen in a hurry on the Hill, and an item that’s been languishing – say, revival of the minority tax certificate – might suddenly finds itself tacked on to a completely unrelated bill as an amendment, thanks to some backroom wheeling-dealing and horse trading. So we’ll keep our eyes and ears open.
