WPRO-AM Providence reports that long-time morning show sidekick Larry Kruger has died at age 66. Kruger was a fixture on WPRO from 1973 through 1995, including 16 years on the morning show with Salty Brine.

Having previously worked in Springfield, MA, Kruger joined WPRO in 1973, first in the afternoon and then middays.  In 1977, he joined with Salty Brine on the morning show, where he remained a fixture until Salty’s retirement in 1993. (Brine died in 2004.) Kruger continued for two years after that with John “Coach” Colletto.

Kruger also served as a traffic reporter for WJAR-TV (NBC) Providence in the 1990s. He was inducted into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame earlier this year, as pictured, but lately suffered unspecified health problems.

A memorial service is set for Saturday, July 9th.
