Larry Wilson Steps Down As Alpha Head

PORTLAND, ORE. — Alpha Media has announced that Larry Wilson is stepping down as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Oregon-based broadcast company.

He will remain a member of the Board.

Under Wilson’s guidance, Alpha Media became the largest privately-owned radio broadcast company in the United States, operating 225 radio stations in 48 markets across the nation— largely thanks to a deal for Digity LLC, which has saddled Alpha with a host of stations in markets where it seeks a buyer.

“Wilson is a respected colleague and pioneer in the broadcast industry,” said Bob Proffitt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Media. “His vision helped craft today’s broadcast and radio landscape.”

Alpha Media will elect a new Chairman at their next scheduled board meeting, the company said in a release distributed at 10pm Pacific Sunday.

The company declined to answer questions regarding Wilson’s health. He was visibly under the weather at the 2018 NAB Show in Las Vegas in early April.

Wilson, who formerly led Citadel Communications prior to its acquisition by Cumulus Media, has been recognized for his exemplary work in broadcast and voted “Executive of the Year” by Streamline Publishing’s Radio Ink in 2002 and 2016.

Most recently in 2018, Wilson ranked eleventh in Radio Ink’s annual 40 Most Powerful People in Radio, a distinction he has received multiple times over the years.
