Last.fm debuts personalized festivals feature

Last.fm has launched Last.fm Festivals, a new feature dedicated to giving users personalized recommendations on all things surrounding the much anticipated summer music season.  Last.fm Festivals, exclusively sponsored by the U.S. Air Force, recommends compatible shows to users at http://www.last.fm/festivals.

From Bonaroo to Lollapalooza, Warped Tour and Bumbershoot, the new tool makes it easy for Last.fm’s 40 million users to find out which festivals are most compatible with their unique music taste in any country or even continent in the world. Through Last.fm’s recommendation system based on scrobbling, compatibility scores are determined by examining the artists and genres in a user’s library and comparing it with any given festival line-up. The more a user scrobbles and interacts with Last.fm, the more tailored the recommendations will be.

Once a user finds a festival of interest, they can click on a page dedicated to the event, where Last.fm compares the artists scheduled to appear with their Last.fm profile and generates a list of bands they should check out.  A user can also filter the list of featured artists by genre. Each festival page will include a streaming radio station built around the billed artists, so users can listen to the line-up in advance.

In addition, the individual festival pages include general info about the concert, travel links for transport and accommodation, social media capabilities and a countdown clock showing the number of days until the festival.  Users can email their recommendations to friends or access them through their smartphone at the event.

Last.fm Festivals will execute the Air Force sponsorship through banners, videos and on Last.fm on Xbox LIVE, as well as on branded print outs.
